Edurite's Expansion Plan

On Sept 27th, one interesting news appeared on ET (Page 6), it was on the expansion plan for Edurite Technologies a Bangalore-based educational content company started by Prof Jawahar, director - PES Institutions and G S Ravi.
Edurite's 2007 revenue was $2mn. They are planning to raise Rs50Cr thru PE funding for the purpose of expansion (Refer details on expansion mentioned in the newspaper, since it is not a listed company hence no point of mentioning in detail here) . It is targetting a topline of $100mn by 2010-11!!!
Yes, from a revenue of Rs8Cr to Rs400Cr (assuming $1=Rs40) in just 4 years time.....a 50times increase in revenue in just 4 years, shocking indeed!!!
But they can achieve this target just because they are in the right business at the right time and that the business is EDUCATION SECTOR. One more reason because Edurite is acquired by Tutorvista who owned by entrepreneur K Ganesh who is well respected personality.

Flash back: Nov'07 : SERIAL entrepreneur K Ganesh-led online tutoring services company TutorVista.com has acquired educational content firm Edurite for an undisclosed sum. The company has set up a subsidiary - TutorVista Education India - which will include Edurite and cater to the domestic market

Internet companies feature prominently on Airtel Digital TV (DTH), and services appears to be a significant differentiator for Airtel. Some of the content and media services on offer:
- iAstro: powered by StarsTell, a services from WorldPhone, a VoIP player which is a part of Times Private Treaties (screencap)- iCity: has two components. The Maps are powered by MapUnity, and the estimations of traffic are a function of the number of mobile phones on a particular road. The other component is local business information (restaurants) and events, being powered by AskLaila. . Screencaps: Mapunity 1, Mapunity 2 , Asklaila- iLearn: is being powered by Edurite, and developed by Infosys (screencap)- iMatinee: powered by BookMyShow, a Web18 site- iNet: isn’t really Internet access on the mobile, but actually widgets which you can place on your TV screen. The deals are essentially on revenue share. As far as the customer is concerned, depending on the package he opts for, he’ll get access to an application.
What’s interesting is that there’s a section called “Airtel Live”, like in case of the mobile WAP deck. Some of the services on offer on Airtel Live are free, while others are paid. As far as services are concerned, Airtel appears to be taking the mobile approach to DTH, where they will provide TV channels, and then bundle in other services that users can subscribe pay for.

Thought of writing something very interesting but could not come up with anything. So just to amuse myself and to let me feel occupied, I’m delighted to present this exclusive interview with MEREN LONGCHAR, President and CEO of the multi-million dopees corporation Meren International and cast member of the increasingly popular reality show "Psychedelic".
Last year he shared to insights on "How to co-exist peacefully despite irritating others", the manisfestation of his intentions in his glorious 27 years on this Earth after staring bleakly for two millenium and four decades.
In this exclusive interview Meren throws insights about complex relationship between human and Psychedelicity; and his experience of recieving ambrosia that comes from within ourself.

1. Why do you consider yourself "Psychedelic"?
Meren :Hallucinations is a state of mind where you are not yourself ---like making love to Cameron Diaz when you infact making love to a sexually frustrated spinster and also having that particular orgasm like a pig for 30 minutes. It let you liberated yourself from this ordinary world in an altered state of awareness and perception.

You just can't wear Armani if you want to wear white robes.. I've tried many things in life abstain from non-vegetarian food for more than one year but just a total waste of time.

Its the feeling, Psychedelic is all about that..

6. How we create alignment? What does it mean to be in resonance?
Meren :When i was looking for some data about the crime rate of Dimapur, robbery in particular. I browse thro google and typed "Nagaland Police", atleast that was the first thing that came to my mind for my so called research. The first web link was Tripura police site and it was talking about NSCN. Alignment is something more than that. Resonance is again something more than resonance.

You may desire a new car. Can you feel the feel the emotion of owning it?????? Can you see yourself driving the car, taking out the girl you always wanted to but never had the guts, driving upto Dhansiri for a picnic???? Thats resonance if you can achieve that.

3. What are the most important new distinctions you’ve made since "Psychedelic"?

Meren :Psychedelic is not a new distinction like Quantum physics. They are like sisters between reality and psychedlism- but not like lesbianism. We live in a very exciting time of reality with hallucination… and I’m extremely optimistic about where we as a people are existing.

Patriarchal order of society
Women are considered as human being for bearing children, the father is considered the head of the family and the bread earner which is an obstacle to woman’s advancement. There are very less families where the mother is the sole bread earner of the family.

Obstruction from male legislators
Lack of motivation on the part of male legislators to submit or consider proposal that benefits woman. Less priority given to political commitment to development and allocation of resources from the budget.

Unemployment rate of woman compared to man
Many women in the society are housewives, compared to husband who are generally working or doing some sort of business. One factor that can change is an increased presence in the work place. WithThe increased need for labour had sent many women to work and that had contributed to their status and power in society

Lack of woman in high official and taking higher education
The ratio of woman to man in high official is comparatively very low. Woman taking up higher or professional education is very less compared to man. Less access and motivation to agricultural credit, technical training and housing plans. That why education for women has to increase at the higher levels, with female university graduates entering the professional labour force. However, obstacles also remain to women acceding to decision- making positions despite their better educational scores than men. . One factor that can change is an increased presence of woman in the work place. With this increased number of women in workplace can contributed to their status and power in society.

Domestic violence
Many cases of domestic violence goes unreported, domestic violence is usually not characterized as a crime and so it is difficult to punish the perpetrators. Furthermore, the privacy of the victim is often violated by personnel, particularly police officers, who were not trained to deal with such matters. The experiences of women victims of domestic violence had been very traumatic, particularly in light of reports that authorities acted with "sexist prejudice" and blamed the women for provoking the violence.

Lack of measures taken
Few measures are taken to address that problem including the recognition and reassessment of women's role in society. There is very few specific days established to celebrate the role of women.

Image of woman in media
On the subject of images of women in the media, women is often promoted the stereotypes of a subordinate role for women in society. The media continued to see women as sexual objects to serve a male population and those mechanisms strengthened the man's position of supremacy and perpetuated abuse. Traditional education also promoted the image of the passive woman.

Religious issues
On the role of religion, there is a relation between the State and the church which is deep and there was no separation between the two. There is no framework to induct woman into higher position in church which limits society's ability to change the social patterns that discriminates against women.

Forget the Summer Solstice, I've have a bad feeling that this Christmas Eve is going to be the longest day of the year. I always look forward to this day, filled with its anticipation, pork,rice beer and the holiday spirit...but this time only the anticipation will be there. I think i should actually forget how it feels to celebrate this christmas but just think of an innovative way to celebrate it. Right now the weather is not helping me either(just imagine taking bath with cold water in Calicut now!!!!!!!!). I'l have to spend each day waiting for a miracle, enjoying the pork my parents send me for Christmas.

End-term commenced on 28th November but i'm in no mood to study. So i thought atleast i'l do something useful...n here i'm blogging about my mundane life and waste others time by forcing them to read my blog.

Sometimes i feel like sharing everything, because the people who read this are all involved in my life and know what goes on or atleast have faint idea what an a****** i am. Winter is around but i can hardly feel it... i realise that after my sojourn in Tirunelveli and Calicut for the past 7 years. I got my driver's license recently though i dont even know how to write any motor vehicle,oh...i kno how to ride a bicycle. My passport will be ready by March 2006, atleast now the Bangladesh officials cant deport me for being an alien there.

65,250-the scolarship i got on Nov 16 but when i calculated my debt,it was running taller than the mountain and my expenses for the wishlist was growing deeper than the sea. Gone November 21st, I finished my Simulation Modeling Mid-term...certificate and all! The learning was tremendous and exciting with lots of pratical knowledge, to know that I am almost done with the first step in my Simulating Career!!!

In four weeks,I'm done with my SM. We were in his clinicals in the last week and is just about finishing it up !! We inititally worked it out with Newsvendor Problem.... then @RISK......and then. The first week was awesome, full of truly discovering the functions of the Simulation Modeling...which it seems to progressively get better, funnier and livelier day by day..

PS: I wish I had more profs like him to learn more....

My summer internship at Microsoft

I thought summer internship at Microsoft would be a holiday and relaxation time . The souveniors at MS might not say so, I got a watch, couple of CD bags etc which i got after i attended numerous events organaised by MS. Other freebies I got include t-shirts, writing pads, small mementos and hell ya i miss those coke (i mean coca cola ) and cookies (i rarely had breakfast).

Previous work experience isn’t that important in summers. What really matters is domain knowledge and passion. They usually look for people with some combination of people with enthu and passion. The first week, we were introduce to the guys who we will be dealing with ,we got to know each other. I was outline about the project in the 2nd week. I works closely with my guide on clearly defined project deliverables which were assessed regularly.

We made project presentations to the leadership team of the division with whom i was working with. Assessments by the guide as well as the leadership team were send in a feedback form on the basis internship at the end of the internship was send to college.

Why i am Pearl Jamite?

Till the early '90s, glam rock bands like Poison and Warrant dominated the music scene which was characterized by explosive but stupid guitar solos with gals, gals,gals, gals headbanging leading to sick chaos. Rock was dead...no not yet ,it was a circus as popular as the Russians.
Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden exploded into the scene with a new religion -Grunge.This Seattle based band pulled the plug on all the glam rock and nonsense, restoring genuine passion, dignity and meaning to rock.Their unkempt appearance, gruff voice, and grinding, minimalist guitar style were far removed from the perfectly coiffed pretty boys who dominated rock and roll in the Eighties. Seattle came to be known other than just "Boeing".

It was 1993 and I was in IX Standard when Nirvana hit Nagaland. The second greatest thing to happen in Nagaland other than the arrival of Christianity 100 years back. Tracing back history and spectacular growth of the grunge scene from my school campus where we use to exchange Nirvana and Pearl Jam cassettes, lyrics and posters. We use to sing "come as you r as...", "Evenflow thoughts arrive like...." which still lingers in my mind till now. Some might say that we need to move on with other genre of music as time-pass by but "Its the world that i live in those days were too heavy, just the things that i have save is too big".. The road for grunge may be becoming lonely just because it's not paved regularly but with fans like me will keep the legacy alive.

Unrestricted Globalization at IIMK- bane or boon?

Girls in the emerging IIMK environment was traditionally a highly protected industry, living off gud spreads achieved on the pervasive restrictions on domestic and foreign entry. The domestic entry was due to the lack of adequate girls in the campus......reasons best unknown. The foreign entry was becoz IIMK didn't have an exchange programme till 2005. However, global market and technological developments, exchange programme and MICROECONOMIC pressures in 2005 have forced the IIMK environment to change the gud old way of doing business.

Impact of globalization

1. Consolidation of environment:

This industry was dominated by a small number of gals which lead to systematic instabilty in the campus. The arrival of Xchange students is likely to lead to systematic stability n a sense of stability in the campus.

2. Extra-curricular activities:

The demand for popularity of english songs has lead to revivality of rock/metal/pop music with even bands like Outlandish and Soulfly hitting the loudest decibel level in every hostel. More people becoming interested in playing guitar swearing by Pink Floyd being their GOD. People becoming more conscious about the fourth highest paid defender in football, raising their current affairs level. Juntas in western Europe loves football(all IIMKites knows that). Increase in demand for "learning foreign language".

3.Heavenly outcome:

The unlikely unequal distribution of benefits and the imbalances in global rule-making which characterise globalization today will inevitably produce a backlash and growing protectionism.
